How to get started

  1. Confirm that your phone is running Android 5.0 or later. Note: Android tablets are not supported.
  2. Install and open Sends Messenger from the Google Play Store (Add link).
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration process.

iOS

  • All communication on Sends Messenger iOS is private and end-to-end encrypted.
  • Sends Messenger can use whichever internet connection is enabled on your phone, including WiFi and mobile data.

How to get started

  1. Confirm that your iOS device is running iOS 13 or later.
  2. Install and open Sends Messenger from the Apple App Store.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the registration process.

Requirements

  • Sends Messenger installed on your Android phone or iOS device.
  • Sends Messenger uses your existing phone number.
  • The number must be able to receive an insecure SMS or phone call.

What will other people see when I message or call them?

  • Your registered Sends Messenger number.
  • Your Sends Messenger profile name and image.

To register a number

  1. Install and open the latest update of Sends Messenger on your Android or iOS device.
  2. Review Terms & Privacy Policy (Link TBD) and tap Continue to accept the terms.
  3. Enter and confirm your phone number.
  4. Tap Continue (on Android) or Next (on iOS).
  5. Tap "OK" to confirm your phone number.
  6. Wait for the SMS verification code to arrive. Alternatively, you can request a verification call if you cannot receive SMS. After the timer finishes counting down, tap Call me.
  7. If the verification code is not automatically detected, it can be entered manually.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the onboarding process.

How Do I Edit My Profile?

What is my Sends Messenger profile?

Like everything else in Sends Messenger, your profile is end-to-end encrypted. The Sends Messenger service does not have any knowledge of the name you have chosen or the image you have set.

  1. Open Sends Messenger on your phone > go to Sends Messenger Settings.
  2. Tap your avatar, name, or Sends Messenger number.
  3. Tap the avatar or camera icon to edit.
  4. Tap the name fields to edit. First names are required. Feel free to choose a nickname, a single character, or an emoji.
  5. Tap About to select an emoji and to write a few words about yourself.
    • For iOS, select Done to go back to your profile screen and preview the profile.
  6. Tap Save if shown.

How can I change how I see someone’s name or photo?

If you do not want to see someone's Sends Messenger profile photo or name, follow the steps below.

  1. Save this person to your phone’s system contact list and save a name or photo that you want to remember them by. Note: For linked iPads and linked desktops, the phone's contact app will be used.
  2. Then go to Sends Messenger Settings > Chats > enable Use address book photos (Android) or Use System Contact Photos (iOS).

Sends Messenger is designed to never collect or store any sensitive information. Messages and calls on Sends Messenger are always end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and security.

Android

  1. The send icon will be blue with a closed lock after you type a message.
  2. Sends Messenger voice and video calls have a distinct look and display "Sends Messenger" on the screen.

What does it look like to have insecure communication?

  • Every insecure SMS/MMS message will have an unlock icon in the message bubble.
  • Sends Messenger-to-Sends Messenger communication does not display any extra indicators.

iOS

All Sends Messenger communication on iOS is private. There’s nothing extra you need to do or look for.

Why do phone contacts see my number?

Sends Messenger does not send your phone number to anyone unless you send them a message or make a call to them via the app. Other members of your group chats may see your profile and phone number. The Sends Messenger service does not have any knowledge of your contacts. Data is all owned by your phone. Registration notifications are never transmitted by anyone in any direction; these notifications are created by your phone.
